A right you cannot name, in a procedure you cannot follow, protects nobody. So the first thing we hand over is the law itself.

The rules only bind power when someone can point at them. That is why knowing comes before helping.

Land, meaning, and the bond between people and place.

Every society lives on twelve levels, from land and water to governance, health, and the stories people tell. And every humanitarian act, a workshop, a well, a hospital, a law explained, lands on one of them. That is what makes this map useful: it shows where a need sits, where your rights apply, and where your organisation could act.

Every one of the twelve is a place where the law already says something about an ordinary life. Here are four of them, without the diagram.

A workshop is where this map stops being a diagram. You leave able to say which rule applies, and to say it in front of the person who has to answer for it. What you do with that next is yours.

WHY WE TEACH THE RULES FIRST

Contestability is worthless
to someone who cannot contest.

No legal order can promise that every official is honest, or that a judge left his moods outside the room. What it offers instead is contestability: reasons written down, hearings held in the open, decisions that can be appealed and overturned. That is a real protection, and it is the only one anyone can honestly offer. But it is worth nothing to a person who cannot name the right, cannot follow the procedure, and does not know the hearing exists. A rule that protects you only if you have heard of it protects almost nobody. That is why we start by teaching them.
