PROTECTED CIVILIANS · THE REGISTER
Protection
A card is worth what stands behind it. Behind ours is a register: a name, a number and the day it was written, open to anyone who needs to check.
Protection fails first for the people who cannot prove they are covered.
So we write them down, we train them, and we give them something to hold: a card for the registered, a certificate for everyone we teach.
Working under the sign of the 1949 Geneva Conventions. Pilot opening in Kassel.
Written down. Checkable.
WHAT THE REGISTER IS FOR
A name you can check.
Anyone can say they protect people. The difference is whether a stranger can verify it. Every entry here carries a name, a number, a city and the day it was entered, and the card in the holder's pocket says the same thing in the same words. The register does not stop anything from happening — it makes sure that what we promised can be read back: by the holder, by a partner, and by anyone who doubts it. Everyone on it has sat in an IHCP workshop, holds a valid government ID and has paid the year — that is what the number stands for.

Protected Civilist
Our membership programme
How you become a
protected civilist.
Come to an IHCP workshop. One day, open to anyone, and you leave with a certificate in your hand.
Anyone can come
You need no organisation behind you and no experience — you need a day. By the end of it you know what protection under the Geneva Conventions actually means, and you are holding a certificate with your own number on it.
The law we work under
Every article this
register stands on.
The short version
Every entry on this page rests on the Geneva Conventions of 1949 and the humanitarian law built around them. These twelve articles are what it stands on: what each one says, and where to read it. The wording on the cards is ours; the articles are not.
ODE TO HUMANITY
It asks not who you are.
Our mission is simple: clarity, wherever humanity needs protecting.
The world does not lack for storms.
It lacks for people who stay when the sky clears,
who mend, who teach, who remain.
Somewhere tonight a door opens
for someone with nowhere to knock,
and a promise made in 1949
is kept by hands like ours.
This is humanity, and it takes no sides.
It asks not who you are,
but how deep the wound is.
